Raindrops on roses for Oscar de la Renta Resort 2013

1950s silhouettes, monochrome cut-work laces, high-waisted everything and did someone mention embroidery?

We would happily flounce around every garden party this summer in each of these; laughing gracefully behind our hands and playing an exagerated game of hide and seek in the shrubbery.

I tell you, we struggled to pick only a few favourites - we aren't kidding when we say EVERYTHING is really fantastic.

Trip the print fantastic with Marc Jacobs Resort 2013

Here at Ginny & Jude, we love prints and we love colour. And colourful prints - well, now they are just the bees knees!

So, you can imagine then that the Resort 2013 collection from Marc Jacobs really tooted several loud horns for us...

We love the soft Edwardian style hair, the unashamed used of crazy colour and the practical drapery. And we would like one of those cardigans in every colour. Please.

Resort 2013, the best of's

While we shiver in front of our ineffective southern hemisphere heaters, it's Resort 2013 time in the northern climes. Sit back and dream of a summer draped in chic apparel...

Some of our favourites:

The Row, Resort 2013

Love the skirt length and slit pockets, and those shoes are super. Effortlessly stylish.

Erdem, Resort 2013
Prints galore in this really consistent Resort collection from Erdem. Loving the stiff fabrics and jumper/shirt combinations.

Chloe, Resort 2013
Having the models on a glass stage in a field of wheat is inspired styling!
Floaty and fresh, that cutout skirt is just the ticket.

Chanel, Resort 2013
Great faded rinse bobs, and again with that fabulous midi / just-above-maxi length.
Soft and playful glamour.

Preen, Resort 2013
Hard to choose a favourite from this collection - great peplums in a variety of puffs and fabrics.
We're thinking the peplum shirt is going to be the must-have item this summer!

Nina Ricci, Resort 2013
This gothic gown is made up of some seriously beautiful lace!

Marchesa, Resort 2013
Fantastically fun frills and lollipop coloured embroidery. The whole collection is a joyful swirl of gelato!

Sonia Rykiel, Resort 2013
Accordian pleats, fun prints and great hats.

Carven, Resort 2013
Fun and innovative design as always from Carven.

L'Wren Scott, Resort 2013
Retro flavoured, colour-pop goodness from L'Wren Scott

And the winners?
We would happily drape ourselves in all the pieces from Oscar de la Renta...
Swoon!

Oscar de la Renta, Resort 2013

And Marc Jacobs - kooky, crazy and colourful. The combination of colour blocking and prints is how we aspire to dress ourselves! And the soft Edwardian style hair is also a favourite.

Marc Jacobs, Resort 2013
We had too many loves for this overview, so we will be posting a full list of favourites from Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta over the next few days for some summer inspiration!

pinning and winning

Don't you love it when this kind of serendipitous thing happens in the land of fashion?

We recently pinned this lovely peplum skirt to our Fashion pinterest board:

We love a good peplum, and this delightful mix of colours and print had us pining for weather which allows for uncovered arms.
You know, walking down the street with the sun in your hair and a carefree skip in your feet...
*sigh*

Then whilst having a little wander through ASOS this morning we saw this:

Oh my! It's the same dress!!

And it gets better...it's ON SALE for a mere £20.00 - or about $34AUD. Which is a rather pleasant saving of 60% off the original price I might add!

Well, it feels like fate...

hand dyed, hand-woven

Spurred on by a general unshakeable feeling of chilliness, we recently went on an all-out search for the perfect blanket. During this jaunt around the internet, we discovered the amazingly subtle work of American weaver Dianne Nordt and fell in love.

Our love for woven things - rugs, scarves, mittens, throws - knows no bounds, but there is something effortlessly comforting about the cosy colours and simple 'tabby' weave of Dianne's pieces.

Using wool from the backs of her very own merino flock in Virginia, the wool is either left it's natural hue or dyed using plant dyes such as walnut shells (seriously!), sawdust and other naturally occurring bits and pieces.

From the paddock to the loom!

The results are beautifully organic looking throws and rugs in grey marle, chocolate, coffee, vanilla with accents of pale pinks, periwinkle and olive.

Our favourite?

This stunning grey marle, rose and olive blanket:

Made primarily from the wool of their silver ram Charlie, $175 from Etsy

More pieces are available from the Nordt Family Farm Etsy shop

a winter survival guide

As winter sets into the very bones of our draughty houses here in Sydney, our minds wanders to simple and practical 'stay warm' concepts for the home. Our little heater here at G&J HQ is one of those silly little heaters that has good intentions, but it ain't no fire!

1. BAKE!
Honestly, it's the best thing for heating up your home. Not only does the oven create a warm glow though the house, but you warm up with all that beating and whisking and then after all of that there's cake to eat. Delicious, straight out of the oven, melt-in-your-mouth cake. What's not to love!?
Our current favourite no-fuss cake is what we would like to think is a cake's cake.We read this recipe in the sydney morning herald's Good Living section recently (in paper form, our favourite and irreplaceable way of reading a newspaper thankyou). The story that goes with it perfectly captures why it's the ultimate in comfort food.

Cushla's wholemeal chocolate hazelnut cake

125g butter
1 cup raw sugar
3 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp milk
1 cup wholemeal flour
2 tsp baking powder
200g plain dark chocolate, chopped small, or choc drops
125g ground hazelnuts
25g chopped hazelnuts
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs gradually. Fold in milk, flour and baking powder and mix well. Add chocolate and ground hazelnuts. Spoon into tin and sprinkle on chopped hazelnuts. Bake at 180C for one hour. Cover with baking paper after half an hour so the nuts don't burn.

2. Door snakes
Keep those wisps of freezing wind at bay with a door snake. Living in a Victorian era home, our back door is an uneven inch or so from the ground so a door snake is a must.

We love:

We have the white feather one.
$44

These stylish striped linen ones from Handmade by Lynneke are available in three lengths which is handy.
$25-$35

And these bright and fun Marimekko numbers from Jesse's Threads add a bit of colour-pop to the equation.
$45

3. A woven afghan
Wrap yourself in it whilst stuck in a frozen stupor in front of the heater. Works like a charm!
Our favourites...

A St Albans knee throw - we have one of these super soft mohair beauties and can attest to its warmth!
from $109

Hand-dyed and hand woven merino wool throw from Dianne Nordt's gorgeous Etsy shop
$175

Nothing like a vintage scottish mohair throw to keep you warm, especially in this toasty hue.
from Epocho on Etsy $40

4. Tea
Herbal, black - as long as it's loose leaf it's okay by us.
And any excuse for another teapot...

Everything Blue Mountains ceramicist Sian Thomas makes is amazing, and these teapots are no exception.
Available from her online shop for $100
And while you're there you may as well get yourself a lovely new teacup
$25

We were given one of these beautiful hand-painted Polish teapots many years ago - the perfect pot for two.
A huge array of these are available at McIvers coffee and tea merchants in the Victoria St Markets in Melbourne.
From $55

These pastel beauties are from Brisbane ceramicist Simon Suckling - get in touch via email for order inquiries...

And most importantly, sit in the sun while you can and warm yourself up good...

...before heading back indoors!

Won't be long until the freesias come out, spring's not *that* far off!
