Summer Holiday's...picnics...circle skirts

Despite the unseasonal cold-snap, we're determined not to let go of the heady idea of summer at Ginny & Jude HQ.
For us it's all gin & tonic, elderflower cordial, paper parasols, wicker picnic baskets, shady trees and circle skirts!

The production is underway for these beautiful skirts and we couldn't be more delighted.
Each skirt is completely unique as they are made from the fabric panels from vintage and antique kimonos sourced from all around Japan.

And look at the beautiful fabrics we have gathered:

Perfect for twirling and ruffling about dramatically, the total circumference of the circle is a tremendous 3.15 metres!!
These skirts will be made in two styles - a traditional length - to the knee - and a smaller run of short skirts which will sit mid thigh. (To save our modesty in the winds, the short skirts will have a circumference of about half that of the long skirts).

After lengthy discussion, research and calculations we have decided on three sizes - Small (27.5"), Medium (30.5") and Large (33.5"). Like everything we do, if you want it to fit exactly right for you, you can place an order!

We don't want to spoil too much of the surprise, but we thought you all deserved at least a small peek...

Buttermilk Sky Launch Party in Melbourne...

Last night we launched the Buttermilk Sky collection at Asta Pubblica in Melbourne's North Fitzroy!
Despite the arctic temperatures outside, a number of brave souls ventured out to celebrate with us and try on birds and bows and other feathered creations.

Buttermilk Sky Collection - The Photoshoot

It's been a month of busy hands and active minds at Ginny & Jude's over the past few months.

I've been putting the finishing touches on the new 'Buttermilk Sky' collection which I launch in Melbourne in a couple of weeks ahead of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Season in October.

Despite the threat of inclimate weather, the skys cleared and the photoshoot went ahead regardless! Below are some of my favourite shots.
All pieces are available to order. A very small selection will be available through Ginny & Jude's Emporium on etsy.com over the coming months, but these will be limited so if there's something you see below that you like, make sure you get your order in before it's snapped up by someone else!

I hope you love the new collection as much as I do...and make sure you check out the skirt in image 7 - it's the sample from a range of 1950s inspired circle skirts we'll be releasing in December! Each is made from the panels of an unpicked vintage kimono. Beautiful!

New Melbourne Stockist - Asta Pubblica

Ginny & Jude feel like busy little bees this winter - especially now we have a stockist in Melbourne.
With a name which translates from Italian to ‘Public Sale’, the newly opened Asta Pubblica at 355 St Georges Road, Fitzroy North, features hand-made local designs crafted from either re/used, re/cycled, local or natural materials.
With our penchant for re-purposing vintage and/or used found objects into new and functional modern accessories, Ginny & Jude feel quite at home amongst objects of a similar ethos.
This hybrid space is a mixture of gallery, retail, public art windows and office/meeting space. Packaging is minimal and great care is taken to reduce energy consumption the shop generates through reduced printed materials, displays developed from re/used materials and efficient lighting.

Catch the number 112 tram and hop off right outside - just look out for the shop window adorned with pianola scrolls and you'll know you're there.
Open: Saturdays 10 - 4pm weekly

Ginny & Jude at the Marsu Homme Artisan Guild

Mens shoe designer Christina Hammond and her label Marsu Homme decieded recently that the best way to get those lovely shoes of hers onto more feet was to surface for a short time through a little pop-up shop on Oxford Street.
The idea quickly grew from a small seed to a incorporate a number of different local artists and designers with a common aesthetic in what has become the Artisan Guild and Curiosity Shop.
Ginny & Jude are awful pleased to have been asked to be involved and we will be stocking the nooks and crannies of this alluring space with our feathered headpieces, select jewellery, knitted winter essentials and other curios.



Opening tomrrow and running until July 31st there's ample time to pop past to escape from the winter cold into a land of the extraordinary.

Little Girl Blue - our new collection at May Finders Keepers!

We are still doing little polite whoops of excitement here at Ginny & Jude's because of we have been accepted into the Autumn/Winter Finders Keepers Market at Carriageworks!

The Finders Keepers is Sydney's (and soon to be Brisbane's) finest curated market featuring handmade goods from an array of local up-and-coming designers and artists.
Each participating designer and artist has been hand-picked by founders Brooke Johnston and Sarah Thornton making it a thoroughly satisfying cornucopia of appeal and originality.

If the beautiful flyer isn't enough to act as a winning argument in favour of the markets (designed by very talented Melbourne artist Catherine Cambell, check her etsy store myfolklover for more loveliness), then the lineup of participatory talent should sway you.

Hand-knitted mohair collars and neck-muffs, monocle pendants, spherical botanical lockets, headpieces and many more surprises to come including a series of hand-bound notebooks by local artist Lyndal Irons; commissioned specially by Ginny & Jude's to complement our new collection.

Amor Suerte Proteccion (love luck protection)

This Wednesday night sees the opening of Amor Suerte Proteccion (love luck protection) - an exhibition celebrating the launch of a new range jewellery from Christina Adamson's oneredline label...



The exhibition features work from several local artists and designers including Brooke Johnston, Bernadette 'Rockabilly' Bernadette, Tenille Shanders, Sam Dillon, Lulamay Craufurd Gormly, Nikki Majajas, Rebecca Tracey and Ginny & Jude's key designer Rabia Lockwood!

Rabia has contributed a piece from the new Autumn/Winter range of hand-knitted accessories she has be busy stitching together for Ginny & Jude's.

Opening celebratory tipples will run from 6-8pm at Petty Cash Cafe - corner of Victoria Road and Leicester Street Marrickville (opposite Enmore Park) this Wednesday, April 1st.
