Buttermilk Sky Collection - The Photoshoot

It's been a month of busy hands and active minds at Ginny & Jude's over the past few months.

I've been putting the finishing touches on the new 'Buttermilk Sky' collection which I launch in Melbourne in a couple of weeks ahead of the Melbourne Cup Carnival Season in October.

Despite the threat of inclimate weather, the skys cleared and the photoshoot went ahead regardless!
Below are some of my favourite shots.
All pieces are available to order. A very small selection will be available through Ginny & Jude's Emporium on etsy.com over the coming months, but these will be limited so if there's something you see below that you like, make sure you get your order in before it's snapped up by someone else!

I hope you love the new collection as much as I do...and make sure you check out the skirt in image 7 - it's the sample from a range of 1950s inspired circle skirts we'll be releasing in December!
Each is made from the panels of an unpicked vintage kimono. Beautiful!

Email me at ginnyandjudes@gmail.com if you would like more information on any pieces below...

Enjoy!

New Melbourne Stockist - Asta Pubblica

Ginny & Jude feel like busy little bees this winter - especially now we have a stockist in Melbourne.
With a name which translates from Italian to ‘Public Sale’, the newly opened
Asta Pubblica at 355 St Georges Road, Fitzroy North, features hand-made local designs crafted from either re/used, re/cycled, local or natural materials.
With our penchant for re-purposing vintage and/or used found objects into new and functional modern accessories, Ginny & Jude feel quite at home amongst objects of a similar ethos.
This hybrid space is a mixture of gallery, retail, public art windows and office/meeting space. Packaging is minimal and great care is taken to reduce energy consumption the shop generates through reduced printed materials, displays developed from re/used materials and efficient lighting.

Catch the number 112 tram and hop off right outside - just look out for the shop window adorned with pianola scrolls and you'll know you're there.
Open: Saturdays 10 - 4pm weekly

Ginny & Jude at the Marsu Homme Artisan Guild

Mens shoe designer Christina Hammond and her label Marsu Homme decieded recently that the best way to get those lovely shoes of hers onto more feet was to surface for a short time through a little pop-up shop on Oxford Street.
The idea quickly grew from a small seed to a incorporate a number of different local artists and designers with a common aesthetic in what has become the Artisan Guild and Curiosity Shop.
Ginny & Jude are awful pleased to have been asked to be involved and we will be stocking the nooks and crannies of this alluring space with our feathered headpieces, select jewellery, knitted winter essentials and other curios.

Opening tomrrow and running until July 31st there's ample time to pop past to escape from the winter cold into a land of the extraordinary.
263 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst.

Little Girl Blue - our new collection at May Finders Keepers!

We are still doing little polite whoops of excitement here at Ginny & Jude's because of we have been accepted into the Autumn/Winter Finders Keepers Market at Carriageworks!

The Finders Keepers is Sydney's (and soon to be Brisbane's) finest curated market featuring handmade goods from an array of local up-and-coming designers and artists.
Each participating designer and artist has been hand-picked by founders Brooke Johnston and Sarah Thornton making it a thoroughly satisfying cornucopia of appeal and originality.

If the beautiful flyer isn't enough to act as a winning argument in favour of the markets (designed by very talented Melbourne artist Catherine Cambell, check her etsy store myfolklover for more loveliness), then the lineup of participatory talent should sway you.

...We already have some clear favourites:

Publisher Textiles for their amazing wallpaper prints

Wall decals by Vinyl Designs (above) and Made By White (below)

Kuwaii for their gorgeous tailored clothes...this particular combination is number one on the wishlist.

We have always liked a good bunch of branches and this particular option from Shady Designs is pretty fab.

Don't forget the kitchen! Materialistic have an amazing selection of teatowels...but which one to choose?!

And us? We have been busy little bees putting together our Little Girl Blue collection for Autumn/Winter 09.
Hand-knitted mohair collars and neck-muffs, monocle pendants, spherical botanical lockets, headpieces and many more surprises to come including a series of hand-bound notebooks by local artist Lyndal Irons; commissioned specially by Ginny & Jude's to complement our new collection.

1933 Summer Fashions Revisited...

I recently happened upon an article at vintage connection taken from the Summer edition of the Delineator magazine from 1933. Titled 'Yes and No. Fashions from 1933' the article frankly states some lovely fashion truths of the day.
Now, it may no longer be 1933, but I think there are a couple of brilliant ides to guide us through the summer of 2009 with style and poise!

"Yes. Bicycles are in fashion again after all these years--the direct result of all those cruises to Bermuda where you had to ride a 'bike' or else just stay put, on a hotel veranda. So now we have to have bicycle clothes. Twin sweaters with a divided skirt that doesn't look it, or shorts-and-shirt, or slacks-and-shirt. These are the things for roller skating, too, which is also enjoying a return engagement."
Now, I'm not one for skorts of culottes, but I heartily recommend the return of bicycle high fashion. Discard your unflattering lycra for a pair of high waisted linen pants or shorts and a gorgeous cream embroidered silk shirt.
Here are some lovely options for you:
Antique button-up-the-back cream eyelet blouse
Sheer embroidered lacy-racy number
It may not be silk, but this cute embroidered rayon blouse is still a winner
And
Karen Walker's 'Hi There' diffusion range has a lovely white linen high-waisted short

"Yes. White pique, and more and more white
pique--nothing could be smarter. Sets of it--hat, bag and gloves--are worn with dark suits, and what those three fresh things won't do to an old suit! And everyone who owns a dark printed silk dress--and who doesn't--should have a whit pique swagger coat to wear with it. And white pique on a black chiffon evening gown, is something you have to see to believe-to believe it could be so nice!"
It's fresh and crisp - which is exactly how you want to feel during a Sydney summer, so get yourself some flattering 'white'.
With a little love this would be the perfect tea party dress
Feel like a project? Imagine this little number in a crisp white material with a small floral pattern...
like this lovely 1940s voile from Australia's own Fabric Deli!
This embroidered 1900s skirt is the epitome of crisp as is this embroidered dress of the same era.
Pop one of these gorgeous white collars or dickies over a slip for a little bit of instant zing.

Enjoy your summer!

Ginny & Jude's at the Kinokuniya Craft Fair next weekend...

With the whirlwind of the festive season behind us our nimble hands are making light work of preparations for the Kino craft fair next weekend, Saturday 17th January.

The fair runs from 11am-4pm inside the store itself and you can expect a number of sellers hawking their handmade wares from accouterments, small press, headwear and the like.

And us? We have a new range of 1920s inspired plunge and swing necklaces which we will be showing off. They range from $45 to $90 and - as always - are made from the highest quality semi-precious stones and glass.

We will also have a small range of new headbands and headwear which will only be available at the markets including a new range which uses Japanese-made millinery pieces from the 1930s.

For more information, visit the Kino Craft Fair facebook page:
